I grew up with fake maple syrup--found out as a la leche leader that the natural flavor was likely fenugreek, which promotes lactation. I didn’t have trouble with my supply. But I loved fake syrup until my Vermont friend Kathleen introduced me to lovely Grade B. I could put it on everything.
Oh, this makes me SOOOOOOOO happy! I just went to a wedding on Saturday, third marriage for each, both from my high school class. They asked for syrup for a gift, and I got them a couple of half gallons. At one point Angela sent me a photo of an empty Mrs. Butterworth as a hint, to which I replied, "This is wrong on so many levels." xxoo
ReplyDeleteMaple syrup - fake or not - is not something my generation grew up with. My nieces though, know it.
ReplyDeleteGood work, Indigo!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I grew up with fake too. We only buy the real stuff now. I don't love pancakes or waffles so I rarely get to taste it.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with the fake stuff too. Then for a long time after my husband and I moved here we tapped our own maple trees. Now I have to buy it. Fortunately, I don't use much. But when we had gallons and gallons I used to bake with it.
ReplyDeleteDid I know you were a LLLeader (like me)?
I don't think I have talked much about LLL online. I loved my time as leader--I did online help anonymously nationwide and it was the best. They changed the rules and my life got busy and I retired but for the 5 years I did it, it was really rewarding. I developed longterm relationships with mothers with very complicated problems they were too mortified to go to the local meetings about (like cocaine addiction, third nipples, secondary infertility, lupus)
