August 14: Capitol Reef National Park

Maybe it's ghosts
But it feels more like
an shattered presence
a vastness
an absence of peace
Malevolence.

There are apricot trees
fruit pies
relaxed helpful rangers
a stark beauty like nothing I've ever seen—
and I'm glad I've seen it—
but it's not right in my heart.

  1. I wonder why you had that reaction to it, and I wonder how many others have felt the same thing.

  2. I hope to see this, when the boycott of the US finishes. But ... the last line ... maybe not.

  3. I wasn't sure where this was, so I looked it up. Whenever I see pictures like this, I feel such a sense of familiarity that I'm sure I spent a life there once. Except I don't know where I stand on reincarnation.
